Eruption - e-learning

This project was a year long negotiated project based on the principles of

e - learning. We where asked to work independently on our own projects but discuss and refine our ideas in group discussions. I chose to base my artifact around the Geography of Volcanoes. I chose Geography because it is so rich in multimedia, for instance. In classrooms Geography is thought using Diagrams, Experiments and Textbooks this can be interpreted as Graphics, Interaction and Text. By combination these tools it possible to enhance the students learning experience. The rationale behind this is that people are more likely to understand material when they can engage in active learning. The learning principle which explains this the best is known as the multimedia effect - people learn more deeply form words and graphics than from words alone. So by reading a paragraph then studying a diagram the user begins to fill in the pieces between the two. This to me best explains the principles of e - learning and why i chose Geography as my platform.
